The setting is in the eveninging on a unharmed ground road with a single tree present. estragon is attempt to pull onward his boot, but without success. Vladimir enters and greets tarragon, who informs him that he has worn out(p) the iniquity in a ditch where he was beaten. With overbearing driving force Estragon succeeds in pulling off his boot.
