Mathilde Loisel (the protagonist of this story) is one of those picturesque and appeal girls, (pg. 221) who is born into a family of clerks. She often dreams of the wealth she doesnt perk up and quiet antechambers, heavy with Oriental tapestries, lighten by torches in knightly bronze sockets. (Pg. 221) Even though the invitation to an evening reply is the invitation she has invariably hoped for, she feels scummy for she has neither fancy up nor jewelry fitting of deprivation to such an occasion. To make her happy, her maintain (Monsieur Loisel) gives her the money that he saves to her so that she could buy a wrap gown. She borrows a diamond necklace from her lively friend, Mme. Forestier. After the ball, she couldnt realise the necklace and because of her dignity, she couldnt involve herself to furcate her friend. She ends up buying an same necklace, which she crumb non afford without debt. This causes the Loisel defend to experience the hardship of propertyless life. In the end, it is revealed that the necklace is a fake.
